News And Announcements
The Virginia Campground Association (VCA) is thrilled to announce that Susan Motley, CAE, will assume the role of Executive Director beginning November 1, 2024. After a thorough selection process, the board voted overwhelmingly to appoint Susan as Executive Director, confident in her ability to guide VCA into a bright and successful future. Susan’s wealth of experience, strong leadership skills, and deep passion for outdoor hospitality make her the ideal choice for this important role.
fore we look ahead, we want to extend our sincere appreciation to Hilton Snowdon for his service as Executive Director since January 1, 2024. Hilton played a key role in maintaining the smooth organization of VCA during his tenure, ensuring the continuity and stability of our association. While his time as Executive Director will come to an end on October 31, 2024, we are pleased to announce that Hilton will continue to support VCA as the Publisher of our Directory.
As we enter this new chapter, we are fortunate to welcome Susan Motley as our new Executive Director. Susan’s qualifications make her an outstanding leader for our organization. With over 20 years of experience leading professional and trade associations, Susan has worked with diverse groups, including outdoor hospitality, healthcare, engineering, and more. Most notably, she served as VP of Member Programs at OHI, where she helped grow the George O’Leary National School and celebrated its 30th anniversary with its largest graduating class to date.
Susan holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential, a mark of distinction awarded to fewer than five percent of all association professionals. This certification is a testament to her mastery of essential leadership, organizational strategy, member engagement, and governance skills, making her uniquely equipped to lead VCA with vision and expertise.
Beyond her CAE credential, Susan has earned certifications in instructional design from the Association of Talent Development and workforce diversity from the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business. She is also a certified Gallup StrengthsFinder Coach, bringing a coaching mindset that will help strengthen and empower our association’s community. Susan’s leadership style is collaborative, inclusive, and intensely focused on member development, ensuring that every voice is heard and that VCA continues to evolve with the needs of its members.
Susan is one of us—an avid camper who has been part of the Virginia camping community for many years. Growing up in Danville, Virginia, in a family of campers, Susan’s connection to our industry runs deep. She and her husband, Andrew, have lived in Richmond for over 30 years and regularly visit campgrounds across the state. You may have already met her at one of our member parks, where she’s often accompanied by her two pugs and bicycles, exploring the great outdoors. Her love for camping and firsthand knowledge of our parks will bring a fresh and authentic perspective to her work at VCA.
